Driver in Training, Relief Driver, or Route Driver, based upon experience

 

FUNCTION: 

Drives bus to transport students over specified routes, according to time schedule. Complies with traffic regulations. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drives a school bus safely and professionally;

Handles stressful conditions in a professional manner;

Performs and properly completes daily pre-trip inspections;

Complies with all traffic ordinances;

Complies with disciplinary policies set forth in the Code of Conduct for Transportation;

Must have patience and be neat, personable, kind, and courteous;

Participates in on-site training;

Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering school bus;

Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises students while transporting them.

 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, REQUIREMENTS

 

Driver in Training – $16.07 per hour (not benefit eligible). Approximately 2 hrs. per day for a total of 40 hrs. In order to qualify for this position, you must have a High school diploma or general education degree (GED), pass a DOT pre-employment physical and drug screen, pass an Oregon Department of Education background check, provide a 3 to 5 year driving record and obtain a CLP (Commercial Learner Permit) prior to start. This is a non-represented position. This position must complete ODE training and pass a CDL test in order to be eligible to become a Relief Driver.  

 

Relief Driver – $24.76 per hour (not eligible for step increases). Hiring bonus of $3,000 over three (3) years ($750 at signing, $750 at year 2, and $1,500 at year 3) . This is an on-call position, hours vary based upon availability.  In order to be a Relief Driver, an individual must pass the requirements (including High School Diploma or GED and pass DOT pre-employment physical and drug screen, and pass an Oregon Department of Education background check for new hires) of a Driver in Training, must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License, pass State School Bus Skills Tests. This position is represented and benefit eligible. There will be a 120 working day probationary period for this position. 

 

Route Driver – $24.76 per hour. This position is available after meeting all of the requirements as Relief Driver (approximately six (6) months) and upon the availability of an open route. This position requires for new employees a High School Diploma or GED, and the passing of a DOT pre-employment physical and drug screen and pass an Oregon Department of Education background check. This position builds off of the Relief Driver and maintains the same bonus, union affiliation, and benefits eligibility.
