SALARY: $49,638.36-$92,138.12 (DOE) 

SPED STIPEND: $1,240.73 

 

 

Hiring Bonus: All new hire teachers that are properly licensed and endorsed (meaning- not on an emergency license, restricted license, or with a conditional assignment endorsement) will receive the signing bonus. For staff that are not properly licensed or endorsed, they shall receive the bonus once properly licensed/endorsed (within three years of hire) and will be paid as defined below as much as possible. This bonus will not be extended to current District teachers or former District teachers (including retirees) who left the district in the last five years. The signing bonus will be paid in three payments: Year one (1): $2,500; Year two (2): $1,500; and Year three (3) $1,000.

 

Insurance: Generous Health, dental, and vision contribution from the district, currently up to $2,130 (based upon family coverage), TBD for 2024-2025. 

 

PERS Retirement: The district assumes and pays the 6% average employee contribution to the Oregon PERS system. 

 

SCHEDULE: 190 Days + 3 days new teacher in-service

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Adapts classroom work and provides instruction for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans for students with disabilities;

 

Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations, student's achievements, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment;

 

Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals (e.g. behavioral, motor development and communication skills, academic needs, vocational abilities, etc.) for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration;

 

Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan;

 

Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements;

 

Directs instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students;

 

Monitors students’ behavior/activities in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, playground, community based activities, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment;

 

Participates in and/or coordinates a variety of meetings (e.g. staffings, IEP's, departmental) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions;

 

Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements;

 

Reports incidents (e.g. student misconduct, suspected child abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code and school policies;

 

Administers, under supervision, first aid and assistance to medically fragile children (e.g. tube feeding, toileting, diapering, etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for children as assigned;

 

Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel;

 

Coaches regular education teachers to support inclusion and equity in general educaion classrooms and school settings;

 

Complies with specifications established by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act;

 

Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings as necessary;

 

Leads, trains, and supervises educational assistants;

 

Fulfills other related duties as assigned;

 

Fulfills performance standards identified in the evaluation process as required by the position;

 

Fulfills working conditions and physical effort listed below;

 

Occasional travel between district locations using personal transportation.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee works with groups of students and on a one-to-one basis. Students include those with disabilities (e.g. physical, mental, learning, behavioral). Supervision and instructional responsibilities require the employee to be able to stand for up to 45 consecutive minutes and move rapidly to intervene in situations where a student's safety is being jeopardized. The supervision may also occur during times of inclement weather. The employee needs to be able to lift materials, boxes, or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds;


The employee must be tolerant yet assertive in order to communicate effectively in confrontational and emotional situations involving students and their parents/guardians. Confidentiality is a top priority for the person in this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

Current concepts, methods and procedures for curriculum development and implementation;

Laws, rules, policies, and trends regarding instruction;

Techniques in evaluation and assessment of learning and human development;

Behavior management and communication techniques;

Computer technology and other equipment used in the workplace, as required by the position.

Skills and Abilities:
Possess the physical ability to regularly attend work and fulfill the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation;
Adhere to the federal requirements of a drug-free workplace;
Hold a valid first aid card;
Perform the duties as required by the Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (OAR 584-20-000 to 035)
Read, understand, and carry out oral and/or written instructions;
Accurately transfer, record and convey information, materials and money, as required by the position;
Communicate clearly and appropriately in speech and in writing in accordance with educational standards;
Complete all required special education forms and processes within specific time lines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of course work satisfying the requirement of issuance of a valid Oregon teaching license with appropriate endorsement in the designated assignment;


Demonstrated ability to teach students to be successful learners through student teaching, internship or temporary/regular teaching experience.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING:
Special Education Teaching Endorsement required

Completion of deescalation training required
