Rate of Pay:

$15.60 per hour

 

$1000 annual stipend pro-rated based upon hrs and date of hire

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans;
  • Administers, under supervision, first aid and assistance to medically fragile children (e.g. tube feeding, toileting, diapering, etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for children as assigned;
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment;
  • Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals (e.g. behavioral, motor development and communication skills, academic needs, vocational abilities, etc.) for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration;
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan;
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements;
  • Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students;
  • Monitors students’ behavior/activities in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment;
  • Participates in and/or coordinates a variety of meetings (e.g. PLC, IEP, Department, School) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions;
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements;
  • Provides intervention or alternate programs for ineligible students (e.g. Rti) for the purpose of supporting the academic improvement of all students at assigned school;
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code and school policies;
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel;
  • Provides an appropriate learning environment to facilitate eventual re-integration;
  • Coaches regular education teachers to support re-integration back into the regular classroom;
  • Complies with specifications established by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act;
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings as necessary;
  • Provides social-emotional instruction to teach and increase appropriate pro-social behavior and self-regulation;
  • Leads, trains, and supervises educational assistants;
  • Fulfills other related duties as assigned;
  • Fulfills performance standards identified in the evaluation process as required by the position;
  • Fulfills working conditions and physical effort listed below;
  • Occasional travel between district locations using personal transportation.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee works with groups of students and on a one-to-one basis. Students include those who may be physically and mentally disabled, learning disabled, emotionally disturbed and culturally different. Supervision and instructional responsibilities require the employee to be able to stand for up to 45 consecutive minutes and move rapidly to intervene in situations where a student's safety is being jeopardized. The supervision may also occur during times of inclement weather. The employee needs to be able to lift materials, boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds;
The employee must be tolerant yet assertive in order to communicate effectively in confrontational and emotional situations involving students and their parents/guardians. Confidentiality is a top priority for the person in this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
Current concepts, methods and procedures for curriculum development and implementation;

Laws, rules, policies, and trends regarding instruction;

Techniques in evaluation and assessment of learning and human development;

Behavior management and communication techniques;

Computer technology and other equipment used in the workplace, as required by the position.

Skills and Abilities:
Possess the physical ability to regularly attend work and fulfill the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation;
Adhere to the federal requirements of a drug-free workplace;
Hold a valid first aid card;
Read, understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions;
Communicate clearly and appropriately in speech and in writing in accordance with educational standards;
Complete all required special education forms and processes within specific time lines.

 

Requirements:

Associate’s Degree or pass paraprofessional skills testing prior to employment; High school diploma/equivalent;
Experience working with children.

Complete Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training.
