Primary Purpose: The primary purpose of the Transition Specialist is to provide guidance and direction to help prepare students with disabilities for the work force, continuing education, or independence to the extent possible post graduation. Supervision and visits to worksites are required; monitoring of job coach/ teacher is required; develop and maintain community connections for student employment; maintain and update transition guidelines as indicated by state and federal guidelines; prepare reports that support data submission to the state agency; identify, distribute, and provide transition information to students, staff, parents, and others; conduct periodic audits for transition compliance; maintain data on district transition activities and job placement of students; attend state and local conferences/workshops specific to transition
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of career and vocational education curriculum and transition planning
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including ability to express oneself clearly and prepare flyers and other written material to support programs and objectives
- Positive attitude and temperament, tact and courtesy, reliability, good judgment, and ability to work independently. Strong work ethic is essential
- Knowledge of special education and vocational assessments
- Skill in counseling students with work and behavior adjustment problems
- Ability to organize and implement the program activities
- Ability to provide employers with information concerning state and federal requirements for the employment of special education students
- Skill to write vocational and transition goals and objectives for IEPs
- Ability to provide guidance to teams regarding graduation recommendations and post-secondary goals
- Act as a liaison between students, teachers, and adult service providers and parents concerning student progress and transition activities
- Provide job coaching and training as necessary
- Provide guidance and direction to job coach/ teacher
- Perform related duties as assigned
SALARY:
$11.32 per hour
SCHEDULE:
8 Hours Per Day/181 Days Per Year (Days to be prorated to actual time worked.)
