FUNCTION: To assist the schools’ ELD teachers to provide support for ELs; 

To assist the drop-out prevention specialist with identification and retention of non-attending Spanish-speaking students. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

EL Parapro:

Assist with placement tests and annual state assessments of EL students; 

Interpret for students in class and assist with translation technology;

Interpret as necessary for counselors and administration;

Assist in ELD classroom as scheduled by ELD teacher;

Tutor individual students/small groups; 

Liaison between administration and Spanish-speaking parents;

Parent-teacher conferences support; 

Other duties as directed by ELD teacher, principal or program coordinator.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Associate’s degree or pass paraprofessional skills test prior to employment; or

High school graduate/GED and pass paraprofessional skills test prior to employment; 

Computer skills including knowledge of Excel, Tyler SIS, Word and ability to learn new programs as necessary;

Fluent written and verbal skills in Spanish and English;

Proven organization skills.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; 

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence;

Ability to speak effectively before staff.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fraction, and decimals; 

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; 

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITITES:

Knowledge of office practices and procedures;

Office machine and basic computer application skills required;

Ability to learn new computer application skills and apply them to the job;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees, supervisors, students and the public;

Ability to work on more than one project at a time with interruptions;

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies;

Ability to adapt to situations quickly.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or listen. 7 Hours Per Day/181 Days Per Year (17/18)

 

Salary:

$11.32 Per Hour

 

This position will remain open until July 18, 2017 at minimum or until filled.
