Function:

 

High School Counselor (.5 FTE)

Assist students in the successful transition into and from high school, developing plans to meet personal and/or academic goals and occupational educational life plans. Provide appropriate interventions for students facing difficult personal or family problems, which may impede their ability to learn.

 

EL Student Success Navigator Grades 6-12 (.5 FTE)

Perform various activities in outreach, family to home connections, student success planning and academic advising while working with English Langauge Learners in grades 6-12.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

High School Counselor (.5 FTE) 

Pupil Education Plan; 9 – 12 Guidance; Advise students, parents/guardians for the purpose of providing information on students’ progress and/or recommendations regarding their successful transition into and from high school; Coordinate with school community, including teachers, college and university personnel, military, and resource specialists to facilitate the delivery of appropriate programs and services; Monitor student records for the purpose of developing plans and/or providing information regarding students’ goals; Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to best meet the needs of all students; Work cooperatively with administrator to determine the allocation of one’s time and priorization of duties; Assist in the development of the Master Schedule; Assist teachers and administration in establishing school programs and activities which promote safe, healthy and positive choices for behavior including service-learning and leadership opportunities; Schedule student classes for the purpose of securing appropriate placement and meeting graduation and college eligibility requirements; Present information on various topics (e.g. scholarships, financial aid, goal-setting, skill development, scheduling and post-high school planning) for the purpose of providing required information and/or advice to enhance and support student and family decision making; Provide information and/or learning opportunities for parents/guardians which address issues pertinent to assisting their high school student succeed; Prepare documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying informant to parents, teachers, external agencies and higher education; Research program eligibility requirements (i.e. financial aid, college eligibility, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining knowledge of eligibility requirements and provide counsel to students; Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities; Maintain professional confidentiality concerning individual student data and achievement; Coordinate and assist appropriate instruction or learning opportunities for students with specialized programs; Take all reasonable precautions to provide a safe, secure learning environment; Assist in student testing and interpretation of results.

Participate in various meetings (e.g. staff, team, parent conferences, in-service training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information or sharing expertise.

Maintain a high level of professional integrity by adhering to the Teacher Standards and Practices requirement for an Ethical Educator, as well as Board Policy and State Law.

Develop a positive working relationship with students, staff, administration, parents and community; Help facilitate and coordinate school-to-work partnerships with the goal of expanding classroom instruction and work-related skills; Maintain satisfactory attendance as defined in District policy and regulations. Other duties as assigned.

 

EL Student Success Navigator Grades 6-12 (.5 FTE)

This position will provide ongoing support that empowers English Learner students to successfully complete their educational objectives and graduate from high school in preparation for college and career; support our EL students in grades 6-12 in many ways including admissions, registration, student success, academic advising, and outreach with community partners; Perform various activities in outreach, family to home connections, student success planning, and academic advising for English Language Learners in grades 6-12; Ability to self direct and prioritize with minimal direction; and must have proficient computer word processing and data entry skills. 

 

Requirements:

Hold an Oregon teaching license through Teacher Standards and Practices Commission, Counselor endorsement.

ESOL endorsement preferred but not required.

Spanish endorsement preferred but not required.

Experience teaching LEP students preferred but not required.

Bilingual - preferrably in English and Spanish.

 

Salary:           

2016 - 2017 Certified Salary Schedule $38,467.00 - $71,402.00

2017 - 2018 Certified Salary Schedule currently being negotiated.
