Position Title: Migrant Summer School Paraprofessional- Three Positions
Department: Mills Elementary
Reports to: Summer School Coordinator
Schedule: June 19th - June 30th
FUNCTION: To assist the school's teachers to provide support for all migrant students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned)
EL Parapro:
Interpret for students in class and assist with translation technology
Interpret as necessary for counselors and administration
Tutor individual students/small groups
Liaison between administration and Spanish-speaking parents as needed
Parent-teacher conferences support
Other duties as directed by the program coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Associate’s degree, or pass paraprofessional skills test, prior to employment; or
High school graduate/GED and pass paraprofessional skills test prior to employment.
Computer skills including knowledge of Excel, SIS, Word and ability to learn new programs
Fluent written and verbal skills in English
Proven organizational skills
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Bilingual Spanish/English, preferred
Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to speak effectively before staff and students
MATHEMATICAL SKILLLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fraction, and decimals
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITITES:
Knowledge of office practices and procedures
Office machine and basic computer application skills required
Ability to learn new computer application skills and apply them to the job
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees, supervisors, students and the public
Ability to work on more than one project at a time with interruptions
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
Ability to adapt to situations quickly
